THIS WEEK…
TODDLER TIME
What: Toddler Time is an exciting event for our little ones, and is led by Educator Debby Madden. Four morning sessions will include Bible stories, art projects, songs, games and snacks — which acclimate our young children to Sunday School activities.
When: 10-11:30 AM, July 27 & 29 and August 3 & 5 (ending with a potluck lunch for children & families on the last day).
Where: Lower Level, Sunday School classrooms
Who: Toddlers ages 2 – 5 (must be potty-trained)

EVENTS IN THE LIFE OF THE CHURCH
Recently, July 20-24, the PC(USA) Youth Triennium met at Perdue University. Three youth and an advisor from First Church attended. This international event is held every three years. It provides worship, inspiration, and leadership training for young people in the church.

August 15, 10 AM: Worship. Theme–Mission & Witness. Sermon: ”Go Tell! — Hymns of Mission and Witness. Scripture: Isaiah 52:7-10 & Matthew 28:16-20. Special music is by Jennifer Neslund. Conversation & light refreshments follow worship. The Prayer Community meets following worship.

August 22, 10 AM: Worship (dress casually for the church picnic). Sermon: ”All Around the World: Hymns from Everywhere.” Scripture: Psalm 47 & Acts 2:1-11. Special music is by Lynne Wright. The annaul All-Church Picnic follows (details below).

EVENING VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

This “fillable” form can be sent to Debby Madden as an attachment by e-mail (dmadden.fpcarl@pa.net) or printed off and handed to her.
What: A 2nd VBS this summer — this one in the evenings! The curriculum, “Under Construction” (developed for Habitat for Humanity Int’l) will be used. Construction metaphors teach children about community and the need for decent shelter for all people. Children learn how to help others in their neighborhood through Christian service.
When: Monday-Thursday, August 16 thru August 19 . Dinner is served 5:30 – 6:00 PM, followed by the VBS program 6:00 – 8:15 PM.

ANNUAL ALL-CHURCH PICNIC
When: August 22, following worship. Dress casually for worship!
Where: Village Park. Directions–Route 34 north (Spring Road); pass Nell’s and turn right at next light (Calvary Road); turn left into Village Park.
What: Bring your favorite picnic foods, chairs and lawn games. Provided will be fried chicken, beverages and utensils. A variety of games will be available for all ages!

ICE CREAM STAND
When: Saturday evening, August 28, during the Corvette Parade
What: The Mission Committee will sponsor an ice cream and water sales stand on the plaza.
Help man the stand and meet people from the community as well as visitors. All proceeds will go to Mission Committee projects!

YOUTH MISSION TRIP TO NATION’S CAPITAL
When: October 23-24, 2010
Who: Members of the Confirmation Class
What: An overnight mission trip to Washington, DC. While there, our youth will work at the Cafe Capitol Hill, a neighborhood mission of the Capitol Hill United Methodist Church. The Cafe has been serving the local community since the 1990’s by preparing and serving Sunday meals to un-housed neighbors on Capitol Hill. Youth will help prepare the meal, set up the dining area, and serve & talk to the guests, then help clean up.
